The story of The Tweeddale Whisky is one steeped in heritage, craftsmanship, and the enduring bond between generations. Its origins trace back to 1820, when brothers John and Andrew Davidson established J&A Davidson in the Scottish Borders town of Coldstream. As brewers and merchants of wine and spirits, they laid the foundation for what would eventually become one of the most intriguing revival stories in the world of whisky.

Fast forward to 1895, a young Richard Day joined J&A Davidson as an office boy. It was here that he began to learn the nuanced art of whisky blending. Keen to master his craft, Richard meticulously recorded every detail of his recipes in a cellar book - a document that would later prove to be a treasure trove of whisky wisdom.

By 1923, Richard Day had taken over the business, rebranding it under his own name and setting out on an independent path as a blender. Over the following decades, he refined his techniques and developed what would become the signature style of The Tweeddale blend. As the 1940s approached, Richard began selling off his casks and eventually retired, content with the legacy he had built. But the story was far from over.

In 2010, more than half a century later, Richard’s great-grandson, Alasdair Day, inherited that very same cellar book. Inspired by the meticulous notes and determined to honour his ancestor's work, Alasdair revived The Tweeddale blend using the original recipe. It featured a complex yet balanced composition of eight Speyside single malts and one single grain whisky - a faithful recreation that paid homage to Richard’s blending artistry.

Since then, Alasdair has carved out his own name in the whisky world. He now operates his own distillery on the Isle of Raasay, where he produces a distinctive Hebridean-style single malt. In the same spirit of tradition and innovation, he matures his Tweeddale whisky on-site, allowing it to develop the depth and character reminiscent of the original blends.

To commemorate two personal milestones - the 130th anniversary of Richard Day’s entry into the whisky business and Alasdair’s own 60th birthday - The Tweeddale is being released as a special Caskshare edition. This limited release was finished for two years in an Amontillado sherry cask, adding a rich, nutty complexity to the blend. It’s a respectful nod to the past with a modern flourish, and a whisky that Richard Day himself would undoubtedly be proud of.

The Tweeddale Whisky is more than just a blend; it’s a testament to legacy, craftsmanship, and the enduring power of family tradition. With only 90 bottles available, don't miss your chance to experience the craftsmanship of the Day family in every sip.
